Austin IoT Meetup: Securing The Internet of Things

June 26, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Park in the Capital Factory parking garage and see the receptionist upstairs for a $7.00 validation ticket.

We’ll start with our normal open networking meet & greet from 7:00p-7:15p. Silicon Labs will be providing food and refreshments for the event.

Then, Silicon Labs Chief Security Officer, Sharon Hagi, will discuss why security is key to the success of the IoT industry, some of the challenges of IoT security, and how securing the IoT is a shared responsibility.

Sharon Hagi serves as Chief Security Officer at Silicon Labs. In his role, Sharon oversees Silicon Labs’ comprehensive cybersecurity strategies and best practices for delivering advanced security technologies as an integral part of the company’s IoT hardware and software portfolio.

He brings more than 20 years of experience as a chief architect and strategist focused on driving cloud, software, mobile, and cognitive security business growth.

Prior to joining Silicon Labs, Sharon served as Vice President of Security at Ethoca, a leading global provider of collaboration-based technology that enables card issuing e-commerce merchants and online businesses to tackle issues involving fraud, chargebacks and disputes.

He also served as the Chief Technology Strategist at IBM Security, developing security solutions and products addressing infrastructure, cloud and mobile.

Sharon holds a number of patents in information security, and he serves as a subject matter expert volunteer with the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)², a non-profit organization dedicated to the training and certification of cybersecurity professionals worldwide.

Sharon contributed to the development of the consortium’s Certified Software Security Life-Cycle Professional (CSSLP) credential and other certifications, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He received the Honors B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Physics from the University of Toronto.
