February 15, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

You are Invited to a Hackathon Presented by Good Systems:

This event is open to anyone in the Austin area

Kickoff event: Friday February 15, 2019 • 10am-1pm • UT Austin – PCL Learning Lab 1
Hackathon: February 15-February 22 (teams work on their own, when/where they like)
Team presentations & awards: Friday February 22 • 11am-1pm • PCL Learning Lab 1

At this hackathon we will tackle the problem: what novel systems might we design to help curb the rise of online misinformation and disinformation? We will also expand scope from purely automated AI systems to also considering hybrid AI+human systems, and what it means for such hybrid systems to be “good.”

What is a hybrid AI+human system? While today’s AI systems can accomplish more than ever before, they still typically fall short of matching human level intelligence. To address this, hybrid systems are being designed which combine AI and human intelligence, forging partnerships in which the resulting hybrid system offers greater capabilities than AI could achieve on its own. The human side of the partnership may involve a typical system user who collaborates with the AI to solve a problem. Alternatively, it may involve online crowdsourcing, in which a group of distributed people are engaged via the internet to help an AI accomplish more than it could on its own.
