Agile Austin Meetup: How to Change Culture by Building Relationships
May 14, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Topic: How to Change Culture by Building Relationships
Much advice from seasoned Agile coaches and transformation consultants reminds us to lay down our strict frameworks and look for cultural changes that shift the way the company sees itself. Teamwork, really, is a perspective and a way of collaborating.
But teamwork depends on teams, and teams depend on healthy working relationships between teammates. The same goes for manager-worker dyads, peerdom between managers of different groups, manager-PO dyads…everybody in the workplace has a relationship to everyone else. Your skill at creating rapport, dignity, and trust directly correlates to the success of your Agile transformation.
What does it actually mean to create psychological safety, trust, and alignment? This month’s workshop will use introspection, exploratory discussion, and skill practice in small, facilitated groups to address that question. Through a series of guided conversations, we’ll explore the benefits and detriments of getting work done with other people. Then we’ll practice key skills for improving relationships by getting to know your teammates better.
Speaker: David Staab
Cofounder of Starling Teams, a coaching and training company that focuses on repairing workplace relationships, improving teamwork, and helping managers engage and retain their people. In prior lives David worked as an engineer at a mid-cap tech company and bootstrapped a software services firm. His shift into “the squishy stuff” reflects his deepening realization that while you have to change the hard skills constantly, the soft skills change you permanently. You can find him via his web site, www.starlingteams.com or on LinkedIn.
